Review: Albums in 2007

Music, Review

Personally I think, 2007 wasn’t the best year for music (except electronic music - but this is another story). Many talented and famous artists’ new album made me dissapointed. I’ve been waiting for their albums but after all I gotta say that I could live without them. It looks like they ran out of inspiration and creativity.

Craig David: Trust Me

Trust MeHe’s one of favourite male singers. In my opinion his style is really unique moreover his voice is very special. However his newest album lacks these things. All of the songs are average, and he totally lost his unique style that I really liked from him in the last years. Maybe he wanted to try a new style but in my opinion this album is kinda weak. Where are those songs like “Don’t Love You No More”, “World Filled With Love” or “Just Don’t Miss Your Water”…?

Sophie Ellis-Bextor: Trip The Light Fantastic

Trip The Light FantasticSince she appeared in the music scene in about 2000, I think of her as one of the most talented singers, both because of her voice and her performance. But in this album these abilities are hidden. Even Cathy Dennis who wrote the leadsingle “Catch You” couldn’t save the album. This album is very weak compared to her previous albums.

Seal: System

SystemSeal’s new album lacks dynamics and uniqueness. Even the leadsingle “Amazing” is totally dull. There is no outstanding song in the album…for me they sound the same. Most of the songs are depressing and boring. I miss those songs from him like “Love’s Divine”, “Get It Together” or “My Vision” - together with Jakatta.

Other albums that made my ears bleed: Celine Dion - Taking Chances, Britney Spears: Blackout, Joss Stone - Introducing Joss Stone etc…
However there were some kinda good albums out there in 2007. For example the albums of James Blunt, Mark Medlock, Leona Lewis, The Last Goodbye, Sugababes, Melanie C and so on…

James Blunt: All The Lost Souls

All The Lost SoulsJames Blunt’s new album was a surprise for me because his previous releases didn’t get me. Although I know that “Beautiful” was a very successful song back then. But the new album without doubts surpasses the previous album in all respects. In his songs there is a special vibration that makes his stuff special for me (especially “1973″ and “Shine On”). The instrumentation is very interesting in all of his songs, the piano parts are awesome. The lyrics of his songs expresses deep human emotions. If I had to choose the best song out of it, it would be “Shine On”.

Mark Medlock: Mr. Lonely

Mr. LonelyI really like this album, however the style of it is very far from James Blunt’s. The full album is very outstanding. His voice is incredible, the first time when I heard him sing, I thought he’s an american singer (later I realized that he is german) - the way he sings in english is so natural. His songs set me free, when I listen to him I don’t think about my problems at all.

Leona Lewis: Spirit

SpiritAlthough I’m not a fan of X-Factor, actually it made Leona Lewis famous. Her new album is very good in my opinion similarly to “A Moment Like This” that made her win that series of X-Factor. In this album there are very nice ballads where she can completely use her talent. The only thing that I can’t stand is the drums, they are so out of tune and sometimes distorted like in “Bleeding Love”. The “Moto Blanco” remix of “Bleeding Love” is awesome, it is a must-have tune for everyone, although it is not included in the album only in her single of “Bleeding Love”.
